Question on how long pain should last after neck surgery

I had my neck surgery done in May. They had to widen the spinal column and get rid of bulging disks. They went in from the back. I had an Xray done calle a milogram with dye so the suregeon could see what pathway to use. I was told that headaches were a side effect of it was headaches. I seem to be having the headache side effect to this day. How long should I be having this side effect?

  • Hi Kate,

The muscle in the back of your neck are some strong muscles to help hold your head up. I have a incision in the back too for a lamminectomy. I wore my soft cervical collar at home in my car to let the muscles rest. Almost all spine surgeries take a full year in my experience. My headaches were awful and I would soak in my hot tub to relax those muscles, take all prescribed meds etc to keep the pain mild. I still wear my collars for protection and pain especially in the car and at my computer desk. Those heat wraps help too!!
