ALIF Surgery Scheduled 1/12/2015 - Tips or Advice? Scared...

I have dealt with low back pain L5/S1 for a several years. I was diagnosed with Degenerative Disc Disease 3/2014 as a result of true degeneration, no injury. I am 49 and anxious/scared to undergo this procedure. I tried numerous alternatives such as physical therapy, water therapy, chiropractic, epidural shots, acupuncture and lidocaine patches. Has anyone had this procedure recently and can share their experience on what to expect and how to prepare yourself when you return home after surgery?
