How long does bone area stay swollen?

I had surgery - L3-S1 Fusion and decompression - over 5 months ago. I am doing pretty well, 3 steps forward, 1 back...I have completed physical therapy, they kicked me out because I am doing well. I am trying to adjust to life without the brace, it has been my friend. I have soreness when I try to sit back in my chair, when the bone area hits the chair and pillow. How long should I expect the bone and hardware area to be so sensitive?

I have read about people being tired, I too still get fatigued and after work sometimes have to take a nap. I walk 2.5 miles now. I still have some numbness and sensitivity next to my left hip, and a lot of soreness in general which doesn't surprise me. I get sharp pain when I am on my back sometimes, it can take my breath away. It wakes me up from sleep. Do others of you have the same types of symptoms after almost six months? I have X-rays next week to see how the fusion is healing.

Thank you.
