Never thought I'd be back on this site...but it was such a help to me and other people going through the same situation were so supportive during my C5-C7 ACDF three years ago. A few months ago I started having more than the usual hand pain I have from my osteoarthritis and I just chocked it up to winter time and cold temps. Then a month ago my hands started burning...and started having a deep right shoulder pain that radiated down the right arm. That's when I started to realize the symptoms were just like what I had before my surgery three years ago. My symptoms have quickly progressed to right neck pain, headache, pain across top of both shoulders, pins and needles in hands and now my feet are starting to hurt with stabbing pains which is actually where my pain started last time, and my hand pain is worsening. I'm actually having some numbness of the back of my tongue occasionally too which is scary. My neuro told me that foot and leg pains can come from neck issues too contrary to what some people think. Anyway, I'm kind of in shock that this is happening again and I've been looking for other similar experiences where people have had to have second ACDF and sometimes a third time. My local FNP told me it is very common to have to undergo surgery again. I have an appointment with my neuro on the 29th and in the meantime am trying to not get depressed about all of this. My symptoms are progressively getting worse every day. My recovery from my surgery three years ago went so well, I did everything right during recovery and have never had any problems since until this. At the time of my ACDF three years ago I got two opinions. First neuro wanted to do 3 levels but the second neuro said he could fix me with two levels and I chose to go with him because I felt he was a better doctor. Now I'm wondering if I should have had the three levels done.
Guess I just wanted to vent a little....I know things can deteriorate again and with osteoarthritis the bone spurring can happen again....I'm in limbo right now until I see the neuro. Got the neck x-rays done so I'll hear the verdict next week when he looks at them and examines me. In the meantime trying to think positive and if I have to have surgery again so be it. I'm on a low dose of Prednisone given to me by my FNP but it isn't really helping. Thanks for any opinions.
