neck and shoulder numbness

Hi, for the last 6 months i have been experiencing changing problems. It all started with a feeling in my throat. It felt like there was pressure, just above my clavicle. I had this investigated with camera which thankfully found nothing sinister. The symptoms gradually changed into sensitivity and numbness to the top of my shoulder (where you would carry a shoulder bag). This spread to my shoulder blade, at the side of my spine, and became painful around my neck, near to my ear. I have had lots of intervention, which has not helped in the slightest. I have had Acpuncture, and steroid injections. Yesterday, i had a Doppler ultrasound of my carotid arteries. This was normal. Stretching and massaging feel like it it's helping at the time, but i am convinced that this ultimately makes it worse.
I can bring the symptoms on by lightly touching different areas, especially the centre of my clavicle. In fact, i only need to put my hand near this area, to bring in symptoms in my neck. The doctors don't seem to be too concerned, but i can't stop worrying.

  • Your symptoms sound like Thiracic Outlet Syndrome. Maybe do some research on that and if in doubt request an MRI. If doctors aren't too concerned, then try to relax a little. It's good that you had arteries checked and all that checked out normal. So no need to worry excessively. Good luck.
