Surgery suggested...what questions should I ask?

After 5+ years of back pain, having done stretching and physical thereapy, etc, etc, it was finally diagnosed (MRI) that I don't have an L-5 disc anymore!

The spine specialist has suggested I see a surgeon as he says I'm a prime candidate for disc replacement. My other discs are fine, he said they look like they're discs of a 20 year old, but the L-5 looks like an 80 year old! :jawdrop: Not what I wanted to hear (I'm 46), but at least now I have some answers.

If you good people could suggest some questions to ask the surgeon, it would be much appreciated.

Now that you've had your disc replacement surgery, what would you have wanted to know in advance?

Any and all suggestions would be appreciated.

Many thanks!
