Hi all,I'm 35 and have had sciatica for 13 years now.It started during my first pregnancy and up until now have been fobbec of with just take paracetamol or "you have managed OK during 4 pregnancies ". On Monday I finally saw a back specialist who has referred me for a MRI followed by either injections or surgery.I normally get lower back pain but over the last 17 months its been in my left leg.I'm not normally one to make a fuss or complain but the pain is just too much.A doctor prescribed me amitriptyline for night time and iv been taking co codamol during the day. The problem is I'm waking up at around 3-3:30 every morning as I'm in agony, then I have to be awake all day as have 4 kids(one is 17 months so at home)..I can't sit down or have a nap as its just to uncomfortable and I'm left in pain. Any suggestions would be fantastic as feel like I'm at my wits end.

I had much better luck with sciatica issues or sciatica like issues with cymbalta than i did with amytriptaline, it resolved.

  • Thanks for the reply itsautonomic. This is the first time in 13 years Iv felt listened to with regards to doctors so I'm still quite new to different medication. I can't take anything during the day that will make me sleepy as I have a toddler at home plus I'm my eldest daughter's carer. She is at school during the day but does occasionally have to be at home.Is there anything else other than co codamol I can use for pain relief.

Yes there is I would just have an honest conversation with your doctor about your options. The first step is to actually find out what is wrong with you, that is to long to have that stuff and not know reason. Proper diagnosis brings the correct treatment. I am sorry you felt not listened to with your problems, there are many that feel or have felt the same way, my self included, but you need to push and search for what is causing the issues even if thats going to different doctors.
