Hi everyone first time poster so please be kind. I am looking for answers as to what is causing my pain. I will start at the beginning of my story so maybe someone can give me a clue. I think the pain in my upper back started about two years ago, I am a nurse and do do some heavy lifting but really hard to pinpoint what actually caused the pain the start. It started between my shoulder blades and made standing for long periods of time very difficult. It soon spread a little farther down ending about where my rib cage ends. At this time I was also getting sharp shooting pains down my right leg and numbness in the toes of my left foot. I had mild aching lower back but nothing to really complain about or that Ibuprofen didn't help with. I complained to my Dr. for about a year before he finally sent me to get xrays. The xrays showed disc degeneration in thoracic area. Dr. said that it was very common and part of getting old. I'm 30!!! Well 29 at the time. Well this past December I couldn't take it anymore and the leg pains were also getting worse and I had a breakdown, my mother convinced me to go to the ER and got another set of xrays there which showed disc degeneration and osteocytes. From there I asked for a referral to a new Dr. I went to this Dr. and she felt that maybe I had MS, so she ordered an MRI of brain, neck, mid and lower back. Brain and neck were cleared, at this time the thoracic was cleared but I had a herniation at the l5/s1 level with large annular tear but no nerve compression. So from there went to a surgeon just to get an opinion. He read the MRI and did a physical exam including an anal test after the test he sent me to the ER to have another MRI and told me be prepared for emergency surgery. He was thinking I had CES and it was compressing spinal cord. I have been leaking urine and having bladder problems like I have to go all the time but when I sit on the toilet nothing comes out then I get up and immediately feel the urge to then leak urine. I am also have severe leg pain and the lower back is getting worse now. The upper back remains the same pain. Had the 2nd MRI and it showed no changes in the lower back but now have a bulge at the T10-11. The surgeon said he won't operate due to high failure risk of l5/s1 surgery and that I would need a cage put in. He then referred me to a neurologist due to my right leg quivering all the time. The neurologist did a normal reflex exam and said the quivering is from the pain I was having and a natural body response. Now I am being referred to a neurosurgeon for a 2nd opinion. I am fed up and running out of money and my will to even go on in my life is becoming a daily thought. I hurt so bad all the time I have three young children. The original surgeon I went to took me off work unless my employer can find me a job with no lifting, pulling, pushing more than 10# no bending or twisting he said also try hard not to cough or sneeze. My employer will never allow this I am a nurse so if I tell my work and give them the notes from the Dr. I will be terminated. Does anyone out there have any suggestions for me I am at a loss. And again I am new to the forum world so please be kind I know this is a long post.
