First ortho appointment

So went to my first ortho appointment for my DDD, facet arthritis, and bulging discs..
Was basically told that nothing can be done because of my age (21) that surgery for pain was basically playing Russian roulette. Was told that I was going to start physical therapy and to keep my pain management appointment. But the doc also said that I should stay away from steroid injections also due to my age? That it'll be immune to it by the time I REALLY need them. Is this true? Experience? Opinions? On a bright note I went from being told my spine was equivalent to an 80 year olds to a 50 year olds.. So.. Yay, I guess haha. Thanks!
