I am new to the forum, but have been reading a few posts since I have been home from my ALIF/PLIF surgery with bone graft at L5-S1.
I see that everyone is saying they have been advised to sit for 20 minutes 3 x per day and no more (well at least the posts I have read).
My surgeon and spinal nurse have told me to sit for 30 minutes if I can and slowly increase to 45 minutes and up as I tolerate.
The idea they say is to sit 30 to 45 mins then get up and walk and then sit and walk and then sit and walk...
Then lie down to rest my back after lunch, then another long walk in the afternoon.
This amount of sitting seems quite odd to me since I have never read anyone doing so much sitting so soon after a fusion. After my previous surgery (a dynamic stabilisation which failed), I was told to sit no more than 20 mins 3 x per day and walking a lot was not encouraged. (Different surgeons).
So I really would welcome others' comments on this and what you have been informed by your surgeon, etc etc.
Look forward to some feedback.
