Can neck pain cause leg numbness?

Good day everyone,
I had my c5-6 fusion surgery last april 8 as my MRI shows a herniated disc pressing my spine, when I woke up from the surgery I noticed my legs and hips were numb, im able to move them and I can feel a little if I touch them although I am having difficulties when walking. The numbness made it hard for me to control my motion.

Before my surgery, i did notice I had numbness in the said area, but they were tolerable and i was able to walk, but i was wondering because everything that has been said about c1-7 indicates that it only affects the upper part of the body yet I have this symptoms in my legs. I didnt have any back pain or the back area aside from the neck pain I had.

Im 4 days post ops, no pains but only having some numbness. Im praying to regain my strength back, im also concerned if Id be able to walk properly again and how long will my legs recover from this numbness. The doc said it may have compressed my spine that it may have damaged some of its fiber, he said I can only hope I will recover as soon as possible. I was wondering if anyone else had gone through the same symptoms and what happened afterwards.
Thank you so much

  • I think it is possible for leg and hip numbness. Since my surgery on C5/C6 in September, I have had more issues with my legs falling asleep, toes going numb and sciatica issues. I had some issues before but not as much as I do now. I would think that the doctors should keep looking to make sure there are no other issues causing it. My disc at C5/C6 was herniated and compressing my spinal cord. I had the symptoms of myelopathy. My doctor even had fun playing with some of my "issues" that were a little weird but totally normal with myelopathy. But it did affect my walking( or should I say tripping over my feet all the time or just plain almost falling over for no reason while walking.

  • I do think I have the symptomps of myelopathy. I searched it and it is exactly what I am experiencing.
I too have a herniated disc on my c5-c6 that compressed my spine aswell.

Are you still having numbness up until now stacie? How long have you had it and how are you feeling now? Wish you are doing good. Thank you for responding
