Hi My Name is Chris I have a Chroinc Pain issue from a 40 plus lumbar curve to the left , degenerative disc disease , spinal stenosis, all my lumbarL1 thru L5 are blowen out in 1 cm to 9 cm . I am 47 and have had Chroinc Pain since 40 took til I was 42 before I was diagnosed . I have had RFI and ESI done they seem to help to some degree but not all the way still leaves me taking pain meds. My pain never goes away it just reduces some. Surgery is what I am told my only other option is Spinal Fussion from T2 to L5 or S1 something like that (honestly not interested ). Would like to try Alternative Options ...
I am married 30 years with no childern . My spouse is understanding tho I see how my issues over stress him and we are in a poor economic situation that doesnt help things.
My friends dont seem to get me anymore. They say they understand but they get annoyed and come off with wild off base statements.
Looking forward to meetimg new friends on my journey.
I like being upbeat and positive as much as possible seems those close to me like to be pessimistic as they say real. LOL I believe you can be upbeat and real. Hoping to meet some like minded friends

2 New Friends
Warm Regards

I believe you are right! You can be upbeat and hopeful while being real and taking care of yourself!

Many of my friends and family do not understand.....and even the few who stand by me and try to understand are left with their......I don't get it......once in awhile. Thats okay though, as I must say, I don't understand what is up with me either sometimes. :)

Are you still able to work? I am not a candidate for surgery....so I can't relate to that decision making process.
But I tried to work through my pain, changed jobs hoping next job to be more accommodating to my pain. I had to quit about 8 years ago.

Having pain management doctor last couple of years of employment , most of my energy trying to control my pain, I hired Disability attorney....no cost to me. I was accepted within 6 months...Medicare started 2 years after.
Since, I work with a social worker, as my cognitive abilities have been effected, and she so helpful in helping me with resources that have helped my need.

Not Medicaid....but state supported health insurance cost me $10,000/ yr, with steady increases yearly. That was about twelve years of my life, so in looking back, my disability and Medicare a timely blessing. Prior to that, I even called a mission to see if I'd be accepted in my condition. They said yes...but I've been saved from that , so far. But willing to accept it if life leads that way. :)

I live alone, but we share economic struggles......and pain.

On this site, an article..the blend...re' coping and....the spoon theory....an explanation of how our lives may different from those more healthy. Both of those...very beneficial to me.
Just use search engine, top right on this site to find if interested.

Also, search on this site helpful for concerns you may have. There may be interesting old posts, articles and videos.
    This site wealth of information.

Please keep in touch with how you are doing. Others may come along better able to relate to your doctror's recommendation for surgery.
    Best of luck !

  • It's so annoying when friends and relatives don't understand you or worse they get fed up with us complaining all the time hahaha.

Everyone around us expects that after 4 weeks from the surgery be up and running.
It is difficult to understand ones pain when you have never experienced it. So to me they are all forgiven( even if at times I feel like strangle someone that tells me I'm good to go) :).
Anyways Chris I'm sure that in here you will find lots of people that can relate to what you have and be able to understand perfectly what you are going through. I am one of them :) .

One of the important thing when you are dealing with this type of pain is to cherish the moments when you are pain free and get into the right state of mind for when the pain comes back.

All this is needed while we pursue our search for a normal life. Some of us get there first, some get there later on and a very few never get there but what we all have in common is hope. You can't ever give up on hope that you too will get there eventually. Give up on that and you're already a prisoner to pain, fear, bad thoughts, depression etc.

My point is welcome to the forums :) I'm sure you'll have a great time.
