removing 14 yr old lumbar hardware, 6 screws and 8" rods

Went to see the NS this week with CT Scan. Had a 3 level lumbar surgery with 8" rods, 6 screws, crossbar, spacers, etc. Last 6 mos my lower back pain is horrible. It feels like someone hit me i the lower back with a bat. Appears to be facet joint problems. NS said the rods are too deep into my sacrum. I can't sit for more than 10 mins and driving is painful. Not being able to drive or sit is intolerable. When I had the hardware put in in 2002 I got a MRSA infection which took 4-5 mos to get over. Had the picc line and 1 yr worth of antibiotics and visits to the infectious disease dr. Got the MRSA 10 days out of surgery while I was still in the hospital. I am worried about my recover and infection in the wholes where they remove ther screw which are large. Anybody know about hardware removal recover time for lumbar?? I have a large scar since I have been cut in that area 4 times. I had 2 debriedments and a 1992 laminectomy. Any help appreciated. I am 67 yrs old
