Esi vs trigger point

I was wondering if someone could tell me if I had 3 esi's within 6 months, could I still get a trigger point injection using steroids? My doctor early on talked about a trigger point injection but it kinda went to the way side for awhile. I'm confused on trigger point injections. Initially it was talked about because of tightness in my back and piriformis muscle. I would like to bring back up about doing trigger point injections but if it can't be done because I had the 3 esi I don't want to waste my time. Do they always use steroids for trigger points is my other question.
