I was born with mild cerebral palsy which was diagnosed when I began to walk. My parents noticed that I always walked up on my toes so I was taken to several doctors for physical exams, evaluations, etc. and I wore leg braces until I was about 9 or 10 yrs. old. I sometimes recall that scene in the movie "Forrest Gump" where as a boy Forrest started running, got faster and faster and suddenly his leg braces came flying off from his legs and he never ever needed those leg braces again. Only in Hollywood, right?? Sorry, I digress......so anyway around age 9/10 I had surgery on both ankles to stretch the Achilles tendons which allowed me to have an improved walking gait.....not perfect, mind you, but better than it had been.
Well, next month I'll be 64
and through these past years I've also managed to acquire a few more medical conditions
such as lumbar spinal stenosis and degenerative disc disease....and oh yes I've also had meningitis twice!! Actually I never knew you can get meningitis more than once, but apparently you can..:(
Anyway I was just wondering if any other adults with CP have had similar health issues through the years.....and also would just like to hear from other adults with cerebral palsy. Thanks much. :-)
