Hi all,
Thought I’d do a new intro after moving over from the old site, even though it’s a little late.

Mid-December 2007 my left arm started tingling off and on throughout the day, and my neck was sore. I started going to chiro. Shortly after, I was trimming my horse’s hoof, sitting but bending over and got pulled and twisted. I felt a twinge in my lower back but it was nothing drastic and didn’t hurt until I stood up. I spent the rest of my 4 day Xmas vacation in my recliner. I continued chiro but sciatica set in and was worse after each visit so I quit and found myself an ortho spine specialist who sent me for cervical and lumbar Xrays, MRI’s, EMG and NCV tests.

Tests showed DDD, bulging disks, bone spurs, spondylosis, stenosis, and carpal tunnel syndrome in the left arm. Seems I have a congenitally narrow spinal canal and with the bulging/herniated disk al L4-L5 it’s creating stenosis. My MRI readings say the stenosis is severe, but my pain level doesn’t. The neurologist says I have a positive Hoffman’s test and sent me for a brain MRI and extensive bloodwork. Part of me knew there was nothing wrong with my brain but the other part of me was scared to death! Tests came up negative so the doc says it’s some slight nerve damage from my neck.

So I turned to SH for info and support because I was scared. Now I am not so sure I belong here because my symptoms are so much better. I di PT, was on diclofenac for several months and recently a bit of flexeril for muscle spasms, but for the past 11 days no diclofenac and just dealing with whatever aches and pains I have. In a way it is good because I can tell when I’ve overdone, or I can tell when things are better. Today is the best day yet. It’s Monday and on weekends I am very active which can either help or hurt. I was really stiff and sore last week, but moving seems to be the best thing as long as I don’t overdo it. I try to do a lot of walking.

I know that a lot of what I have is not going to get better and likely to worsen as I age (I am 52), but if the bulging disk at L4-L5 shrinks up just a bit, which it seems to have, I think the rest is manageable for the time being. The ortho wants to operate on my arm for the carpal tunnel, but I’m holding out for a bit on that. My knees ache, I have arthritis in my foot, etc, etc. Just a bunch of little things that make me achey but I’ve got things to do and places to go and hate to be slowed down!! Ha-ha!

Good luck everyone and I hope you are feeling as well as possible.
