MRI - No diagnosis?

I am new to the forum and have found all the posts very informative and helpful. I have been having significant neck/arm pain for a month now and have every symptom of a herniated disk. I have pain in my neck and shoulder, tingling and achiness in my arm down to my fingers, severe migraine like headaches, ringing in my ears. It has effected every aspect of my life. I can't do my job, take care of my kids, my house is a mess, and quite frankly I am starting to get very depressed about it. So far I have been to care now, consulted my family doctor (who told me to go to the ER due to my level of pain) and have been to a pain doctor who finally ordered an MRI. I don't know if I am not getting my point across about how much pain I am in but I feel like none of the doctors I've seen have taken me seriously. I think they may suspect I am trying to get pain killers because the ER doctor straight up told me "this is not an emergency" even though I was in tears because of how bad I was hurting. Anyways, because of this I am terrified that my MRI is going to come back showing nothing is wrong. I get my results on Tuesday and am praying they have a diagnosis and can start treating me because I can't live like this. So my question is, first of all am I crazy? (That one may be rhetorical) has anyone had a "normal" MRI but had significant pain such as mine? And what would you recommend I do if my MRI doesn't show any issues?

  • You've got one day....I'd try to occupy myself on other things until you get the results. If they're negative (and they could be, but they definitely can have significant changes), THEN start wondering about everything else.
Good luck and keep us posted on the results!
(and pppssst....I've seen some wait a month or more for results! Wouldn't that be horrible?!)

  • You are right. After seeing other posts on here I realize I am fortunate to have gotten an MRI so quickly (even if I had to pay out of pocket). I will post tomorrow the results of the MRI and see what my course of treatment may require. I appreciate the response to my irrational worries though!
  • How'd it go?! What were the results?!

  • Yeah, I know how you feel...I have my neck MRI next week and am nervous that nothing significant will show to explain the severe shoulder pain, tingling and numbness in my hand, headaches, and neck pain that comes and goes. All I know from old MRIs that I have severe dessication and bulging at C5-6, along with disc bulges at C4-5 and C6-7. Also have mild kyphosis in C3-7. I had a cervical epidural done 2 years ago for severe shoulder pain. It eased up for a long time until recently. I would have radiating nerve pains in my arm on and off but I didn't pay much attention because my lumbar pain took precedent and are much more severe. I also have numbness and pain between my shoulder blades . I'm not sure whether it's just cervical DDD flaring up but this time around my shoulder hurt just as bad as my lower back. I rather have something show up that will justify my symptoms than not know, and feel like I'm making a big deal out of something minimal. Well, keep us posted about your MRI and I hope you get all your questions answered. Take care
