MRI results I have ?s

I got a MRI done and this is what it says L5-S1 there is a broad based posterior disc osteophyte complex with superimposed central disc protrusion and facet arthropathy. This is cause mild to moderate bilateral neural foraminal stenosis and mild central canal stenosis

I am 34 years old. Been dealing with my back issues after a car accident over 2 years ago. What does this mean? I'm tired of being in pain. I'm supposed to go see a nuero surgeon 2 hours away. I have been in pt 3 different times. I had a medial nerve branch block or whatever it was called but it was torture. I'm not going through pt or needles in my back again. My mental health has gotten worse due to this to. I been trying to get disability for my back and mental health for way over a year. I can't do anything for long periods of time. I DONT wanna waste driving 2 hours to see the Dr if he isn't gonna do anything.

There is a video on this site re........What to bring to surgery consultation.
That may be useful to you.

One never can predict what doctor would advise, but for myself, I have followed instructions and seen referrals suggested to me. I always learn something new.
And I would consider the ride to appointment as investment in my own health.

Re your mental issues, I have been to psychiatrist and found it very helpful and continue to see for med management for anti anxiety and depression.
It took trial and try again, but I found well worth it as mentally and emotionally, I have never felt better in my entire life!

    Please keep us posted!

  • I've seen a nuero surgeon, pain management, and physiatrist and the first 2 said there was nothing they could do for me. So I gave up for a year.

But my ? Is. What does the MRI results mean?

No on one the Spine-Health patient forums is medically qualified to provide any advice or
or recommendations on any diagnostic test. However, the following key words can always be applied.

    • MILD Treated with conservative measures such as Physical Therapy and mild medications. Many times these situations can be cleared up and the condition can be resolved.
MODERATE Some more treatments may be needed, ie Spinal Injections, Ultra sound and stronger medications. Always a possibility of more aggressive treatment if the conservative measures don't help
SEVERE Need for stronger medications. The requirement for surgery may be necessary
