Difficulty walking after discectomy

I've posted a few threads but not had many responses so thought I'd try again! I'd really like to hear from other people about their surgery experiences as I feel left with no answers.

I had discectomy 4 weeks ago at L5S1 for herniated disc. Fragments removed. Since then, I've got foot drop and struggle to walk (not distance, this is improving well, it's more that my leg is still limping/dragging). I've lost strength in my whole leg and can't move toes or foot up/out at all, stand on tip toes etc. There's been no improvements in 4 weeks. Surgeon said reason for this is unclear as some of numbness and weakness in leg correlates to nerves at higher vertebrae (from L2-L4) which weren't operated on. I've had MRI and no compression of nerves at these levels.

Has anyone had similar experiences following surgery of unexplained weakness/numbers and did this get better over time?
