I'd like to hear about anyone's experiences with Topamax and chronic nerve pain from a herniated /extruded lumbar disc. I am particularly interested in the dose that provided maximum pain relief.
About two years ago I developed an extruded disc at L4-L5. My disc has resorbed according to the latest MRI, but the recent NCS and EMG tests indicate I still have some mild chronic damage to a nerve root (myelin sheath), I think its the L5 nerve root. I'm not sure if this will ever go away entirely. Two years ago when this all began, I had unbearable pain and numbness radiating into my foot. I opted for conservative care and avoided surgery. I tried various medications and several TESIs with very good relief. However, once the disc resorbed the TESIs no longer provided any relief. Since then I've tried a couple of gabapentin products without much success and was just switched to Topamax.
