12 days post ALIF

Hello, As of today, I am 12 days post ALIF. About the 8th day I began to experience stretching/pulling pain in in my thighs, down to my calves. It started mild, and has now worsened. I am able to walk without extreme pain, however standing still feels like the WORST pain ever measured. So much so, I have to hurry to sit or lay down...or walk in place to try to reduce the pain. Even standing to wait for the elevator, or something as simple as standing to make a pb&j sandwich is stressful. I went to the ERat 10 days, my surgeon came in and said he thinks it's because the position I was in during surgery is different from the position my body is in when standing still. (Just wondering why it's only upon standing still, and not while I'm walking) and that the once the swelling in the surgical site and surrounding areas subsides, it should make this go away. He started me on Gabapentin 600mg 3 times a day. I'm praying it works at some point. Has anyone experiences this, did it go away, and do you think that the surgeons thoughts of it are accurate?

Thanks in advance,

  • Hi Shavara,

I am 10 weeks post Opp from an ALIF. All I can tell you is it takes time for things to heal. You had a major surgery and they irritated a lot of stuff when they did it. You will have inflammation for a few weeks. I did not start feeling better until week 8 and before that I experienced a lot of different pains that would scare me. Nerve pain will take some time to go away so be patient. Just remember it takes months to heal from this so just take it easy and hang in there!
  • Thank you so much for your input. Makes me feel a bit mor at ease to know that I'm not the only one who didn't get an instant miracle cure dir curly after surgery. Lol
