lumbar TLIF and recliner

How well did your back handle a recliner after surgery or did you use a bed mostly? I know I need to walk a lot and sitting is discouraged, but I will need to rest in between. I am having a TLIF or the other LIF and fusion in the lumbar area with cage and screws and metal plates.

  • I used a recliner and the bed quite a bit after both my microdiscectomies. I will most likely use them again when I have a fusion. However, you have the walking part spot on!! If it's one thing I learned from back pain and surgery, it's that I have to move gently, as much as possible. It's difficult, and I'm about as active as Garfield. lol. It just takes time, and be sure to be patient with yourself. I wish you the best on your surgery. And let me know how that fusion works out. I'm a little nervous about mine, but it's just time to be done with it! Be nice to yourself through this recovery!
