I'm a 30-yr chronic pain sufferer. I've had a Medtronic RestoreStim SCS in for 16 months. It works well when adjusted but occasionally needs changes in pulse width & rate to remain effective. My problem is that I use the adaptive stim mode when possible. This mode automatically adjusts the amplitude (voltage) of the electrodes depending on the position I'm in (laying on side, on back, sitting/standing). But to keep using the adaptive stim mode, I need to vary the pulse width & rate on occasion. The Medtronic technician will not unlock these settings for the adaptive stim groups. I have full access to all these settings in groups that are not in the adaptive stim mode and the technician can adjust the pulse width & rate in the adaptive stim groups but won't allow me to. I was told if the adaptive stim mode is turned off, then I can make the adjustments but this is not the case. The problem with having a tech make these adjustments, the nearest one is 300 miles from where I live. The Medtronic nurse says that the tech can allow me these settings but so far, the 2 techs I see won't do it, saying it can't be done.
Is there anyone here who could shed light on this? If I had control of all my settings, my SCS can keep my pain level around a 1-2 out of 10. Without it, I'm 6-8 out of 10, regardless of any pain medications. Thank you in advance for any help you can offer.
