Hello everyone, I'm a 37 yr old mommy of 2 married to a wonderful recently retired Marine for almost 16 years. November 2014 I woke up to mid back pain, thinking at the time that maybe I just slept in an awkward position I proceed to get both kids up, dressed, fed and off to school and myself off to my daily 2-3 mile walk. 3 weeks later the pain is still there which originally started as a sharp pain right at bra level dead center and each day is just a tad bit worse so off to the dr I go. Right off my dr was concerned that because I had severely low vitamin d that maybe it was a compression fracture in my spine. X-rays done, my dr showed me 5 bulging discs in my T- spine and proceeded to order an MRI to get a better look at my entire spine. Went back to my pcm and we sat in his office and he pulled up my x-rays and MRI side by side and went into details pointing out everything to me, so along with the 5 bulging discs there is also osteoarthritis and early stages of DDD. He put me on Valium, Hydro and Flexeril and wanted me to start PT. I did PT for 6 months with my pain increasing after each visit and now the once sharp pain that was only mid back is now radiating around my right rib cage stopping right below my chest bone. So PT only made my symptoms worse! After retirement my family moved back to GA and my care was transferred to another pcm whom looked at my x-rays and MRI and completely agreed then referred me to a pain management clinic. Once again the dr there agreed with prior diagnosis and recommended steroid injections. The first one I was a little sore at the injection site but it didn't do anything for my pain so I proceeded to schedule my 2nd one which turned out to be a liquid form of the devil. For 3 days I couldn't walk farther than my bathroom and back to my bed, after I was finally at a tolerable level of entire body pain I had very little feeling in my right hand and foot. My next appointment at the pain clinic they released me and referred me to a ortho surgeon. I had that 2nd shot in Oct 2015 approaching a year of the initial onset of my back pain and now I have muscle weakness in my right arm, hand and leg couple that with a leaking bladder and bowel disruption. At my first appointment I saw the surgeon's NP and had in house x-rays where she showed me that I indeed did have bulging discs in my T-spine but the main problem was spinal bone spurs that wasn't there a year ago. She ordered another MRI, I went back to review the results with the actual surgeon and come up with a game plan and he told me that there was nothing worth chasing with a knife in my spine and that I should do yoga. To describe my pain, imagine the most sensitive thing on your body, now take said thing place it in a vice grip of some sort on full squeeze and at the same time shoot shards of jagged glass and metal out of a Gatling gun in a semi circle to my chest and back around to my mid back. Sorry my post is so long, but I really feel hopeless, depleted and defeated by this never ending pain.
