My Aspen Collar is my friend
It helps me not to turn or bend
I wear it when I am in pain
or when my neck, predicts the rain

I wear my collar proudly now,
Surviving 5 surgeries, I don’t know how
Some may think my collar looks odd
I think it is a gift from God.

Peace and serenity for all!

  • It's good you can "make lemonade from lemons!" Hee Hee!--Mazy
  • Peace and Serenity to you as well.
  • ...is a hoot! Thanks for sharing.

I'm five weeks postop now and have been getting out more and more and the comments I get from people are just so funny. Most of the time it strikes up conversations of "oh, what happened," etc., but yesterday was just too funny. I'll share. I was at the drive-thru at Starbucks and this kid at the window took my money, gave me change, then asked, "oh, what happened." I told him, "had surgery." Of course, the silly question, "did it hurt"? Like, what do you think? Anyway, he didn't have anything else to say so he just said, "Well, I think it really looks cool. I'm gonna run right out and get one just like it!"

    Good laugh for the day.

  • The Aspen collar is my friend
I'll wear it until my 6 weeks end
It's hot and sweaty and ugly as sin
But without it, no telling how much pain I'd be in

Without my friend aspen, I can't imagine the strain
Those cut muscles are weak and shout they're in pain
The surgeon masterfully reconstructed my spine,
the collar just keeps it properly aligned

Now I'm 2 months post op and wear the collar no more
Hurray, I can sleep without even a snore
But when I am hurting and my neck feels real tired,
I know aspen is there to be worn as desired.

Okay, mine was corny, but just had to share in the poetry.

Surviving chronic pain one day at a time, praying for a reprieve because living another 40 years like this doesn't sound too fun!
  • all are just too funny....thank you for sharing both poems...too , too cute.... :D
