:? I need desperatly to Gain some weight and cannot//Help?? Every since I went through menapause(parts of me still are)a few years ago I started loosing weight and kept on loosing. Smallest ever gotten was 103lbs. which is much too small for me,,made me look sickly. My normal weight was always 140lbs. and looked just fine at that weight and felt fine. I have managed to gain back to a weight now of 112lbs.and thats the best I can seem to do. I eat ALL and I mean ALL the time, even get up and eat in the middle of nite. My husband even says I eat more than him most of time. I have checked with my doctor and he has ran a few test and can't find medical problem, and just says eat, eat, eat all the time, junk food, extra helpings at dinner, 6 and 7 meals a day and I do. nothing seems to put any weight on me, and I'm more afraid doctor has missed something and by the time its found it will be too late. Any ideas of what to check medically, in case there is a problem? or any ideas on how to gain? Might not sound like this is a problem to some people but it is for me. I have no padding in areas where you need padding, ya know? Doctor says I need more fat mass, well how do you get this? If ya'll have some ideas, please let me know. Thanks, smallfrie52

  • :) hi and welcome to the forum! we are here to offer you support and answer what questions we can. i have had many bouts of trying to gain weight. one thing you might try is muscle building powder. it helps put weight on. i always used it as a supplement not just by itself. it is easy to use in a smoothie every morning and through the day in other liquids like oj. that is the best tip i have for you if you are eating lots of sweets and carbs already. good luck! Jenny
  • I had the same suggestion as Jenny - try GNC or a similar store, they have a variety of supplements you can mix that give you a huge calorie boost. Did you get a 2nd medical opinion? I'm a strong believer in listening to your body, if you *feel* okay than your body's set-point may have decreased with hormone changes etc. But pay close attention to how you feel, let it guide you. Good luck!
  • Did your doc really check out your thyroid? That is what it sounds like to me. The thyroid being inder/overactive is very hard to diagnose as was explained to me. It may show fine a couple of times and then the third or fourth bloodtest may reveal the problem. But, the thyroid would be my best guess. Good luck and please keep us informed.
  • Hey, I really appreciate everyone's help. I will certainly try a few of the health drinks, products. I do drink 3 Ensure a day. Doctor has checked thyroid several times but all is ok, so he says. He says I have a very fast metabolism and burns calories up faster than they can change into fat, or however it works. I could stand for something to turn into fat/// I MISS MY CURVES :''( 8| Thanks again ya'll,, smallfrie 8>
  • ........and I realize that this thread is an older one,but I simply had to comment when I read that your Dr said to EAT EAT EAT,junkfood, etc.?

I would suggest another opinion.Even thin people have arteries, and a Dr to suggest eating junkfood all of the time is some very bad advice and can lead to some very bad habits.

Plus..I wanted to find the weight loss threads .. :))(
