Had my scs on May 29....as soon as I turned it on I felt relief.I have been suffering for over 10 years with back pain and now..this wonderful device has come along...only...now on August 7th I have to have a revision done.My leads are down the middle so my rep says my spine turned?!? I haven't spoken with Doc, before surgery I will. This was the worst surgery I have ever had cause the area between my shoulders is so sensitive.
I was allowed to shower right away and had no stitches at all.Maybe inside but I think I was glued. My battery area (hip) is still healing. It got infected...lots of troubles but hoping this one fixes the problems..
I don't look ofrward to it but I remember what the stim felt like and I had such great relief..

Anyone else have a second surgery?I would love to hear remedies if there are any.,..thanks for reading this.

  • I am hoping before Thursday, someone else can tell me how their own second surgery went.I am so nervous and scared right now..Please help if you can..thanks
  • Mia,

I am getting my SCS implant on 8/12. I am so sorry you are going through a second surgery. I just wanted to give you my support and remind you to keep thinking of the final result, relief! You know the SCS works for you.

Know that you have support here, a couple of people in our community have gone through more than one SCS system for different reasons. Is your infection under control?

Please keep us updated, when do you see your Doctor? Is he/she a NS? Please PM me if you would like to talk.

    Will be thinking of you.

  • Hi Mia,
It's not uncommon to have to have a revision to place the leads back where they were originally. I know that doesn't make you feel any better, but it's pretty common with the scs systems that the leads migrate.
I'm sorry hon, that you have to have a revision and I hope that it goes smoothly and you are feeling a lot better on Thursday night.
Are they going to replace the leads or just reposition them?
I'm surprised that your neurosurgeon has not gone over the
type of revision he's going to do. I don't know if you have
the conventional wire leads or the paddle leads? If they used the wire leads, they may try repositioning them first, o or they can replace them with the paddle leads instead and suture them to the back of the vertebrae so that they
are less likely to move again.
Anyway, good luck......can't wait to read from you how it went.
    Take care,
    Sandi M
  • Mia,

I'm curious where your leads were originally located? Since you mention between your shoulders, I'm curious as to whether it's c-spine or t-spine.

My leads are in my c-spine and they went in between my shoulders.

What was the symptom or indicator that something had gone wrong?

    I wish you the best,

  • Hi Oriah, sandi and haglandc...thank you for your support.
Oriah, my doc is an ortho spinal surgeon not a ns.He is very good and has a wonderful reputation and a great success rate.

Sandi,I'm not really sure about your questions.I am ashamed for not knowing.I researched spinal fusion and opted out.I should have researched this some more and asked more questions.I think I have regular leads, no paddles although he (doc) did mention them.He did tell me the leads were sewn in place.Where or when or why they migrated I don't understand. My rep says my spine moved..wierd...my doc says the leads are were he put them.He did an xray and it looked fine.It looked even to me, straight down the middle.I have a lot of questions tommorrow before surgery for sure. They wanted to do this last week but I take blood thiner med..had to quit it for at least 5 to 6 days before surg.
thank you so much for your caring words.

haglandc,,,I started noticing my stimulation was dropping lower and lower until it was in my buttocks and thighs only.My low back area had no stim. The rep met with me and we couldn't get it right. He wanted me to wait a few weeks since I was getting a tiny bit of relief to see if scar tissue helped.Obviously it didn't.I think I have T spine area.it is between my shoulder blades, about a 5 inch scar.So worried about the pain going back in there when not healed yet but as Oriah said,I know it will work when in right place.I've got about 12 hours til surg now..Thanks for the support,I really appreciate you all.I'll try to keep smiling and asking lot's of questions too! They have to slow down and answer me tomorrow!

  • I) Well, it's done.My doc went into the same incision and bit longer. He definately put in paddle leads this time.He came to see me b4 surgery and answered all of my questions.I felt a lot better after that.He told me exactly what he was going to do and what could/hopefully wouldn't happen.I awoke to pain but nothing like the first time.I was so relived that it wasn't excruciating like last time.I don't even remember transfering to my hospital bed!
My stilumator is working great as long as I am laying down.I go back to doc the 26th,so I asked my rep to join me there and program my other 3 buttons.I want to do 1 laying down, 1 sitting up, and 2 standing up.That should cover it nicely.I am so happy to have this overwith and getting better.I still have to be extra careful, more instructuions on what I can/can't do.It's ok though, cause I know what this scs can do for me.Until I am healed again, I will be a lazy, takin' it easy, do nothin' gal!I plan to nap a lot too!heehee..
    Here's a big gentle hug to all(((((((( :0) ))))))))))

  • Hi Mia,

Glad that everything went well and that you were able to get your questions answered. It's great that you are feeling less pain and that you are motivated to take care and not over do things during the time you are healing up. Please keep us informed of your progress and how it goes when you meet with the doc and the rep.
