chronic pain and sweating!!

yuk ..i hear you say
i don't know about you lovely people but since i have been incapacitated with back /leg pain.i have lost my fitness and more to the point i don't want to move from my comfy safe place.{my recliner with my fan on me}.because when i have to move i start to sweat profusely its horrible.even when i was fit i have always had this sweating thing but to a less degree.but now all i have to do is bend down to put my shoes on and it will be pouring off me .same as when i get out of the shower .i will dry my self off and by the time i have put a dry clean tee shirt on it will be drenched.going shopping with Kath down to asda /walmart to my USA friends!is a nightmare because i know by the time i return home i will need another shower and afresh change of clothes.its very embarrassing.now i am about 2 stone over weight and very unfit.but even when i was 12.5 stone and fit {pre operations!} i have had this awful problem its just got worst with age and lack of exercise.i have had all the test and nothing comes back abnormal.
i just wondered if i was on my own with one or have any of you people encountered the same thing??

Gosh

Sounds like you are really suffering with that sweating!! I have my moments, and we are twins - I have a nice little fan blowing on me at all times while I stay reclined. lol For me, it's more of a claustrophobia/sensory integration disorder thing, but when I do get hot flushes of sweating, the fan definitely helps.

I have noticed that when I change meds, I have more sweating. I HATE it, but lately it has been pretty calmed down. In fact, 2 weeks ago when I was horribly sweating and was either drenched or freezing, never normal, I was put back in the hospital for acute pancreatitis. Little did I know, since as chronic pain patients we all deal with this sweating issue. Hard to know when it signals something dangerous.

Have you had a med change or mentioned this to your doc? Wish you could tweak something and have a bit of a break!!

Take care,

Cheri

Hot and sweaty

I've always been a head sweater but every since I've had my chronic back pain, I sweat a lot more so I can understand where you are coming from. I do suffer from anxiety so that maybe partially to blame in addtion to the narcotic pain meds. I try to have conversations with people and my face sweats like crazy. I had a job interview and the asked if I sweat when I get nervous and I said no, it's just really hot in here. I really wasn't nervous and it wasn't too hot, I just seem to be a face and head sweater. I swear there is something in the narc meds that makes us sweat too. I always carry a hanky around with me to wipe the sweat off my face.

So to answer your questions, no you are not alone on this one.

i hate it i am a very very clean man .i know that some men arnt! i never smell sweaty .i shower 2x a day or more if i need to .its very embarrassing .i can go through 5 tee shirts in a day even on a cold day!.i can't were normal cloths because carnt bear anything on my legs due to my leg pain ..so i were baggy shorts even in the winter and i can only were tee shirts.even then if i do even the smallest amount of exercise i will be drenched.i have been checked out for pheochromocytoma {cancer of the adrenal glands } and other nasties and i have just had a full blood screen the only thing that came back on that was slightly raised cholesterol .i have been like this since i hit puberty!.but as i have got older its has got worse.i sit on my recliner with a pedestal fan on me all the time .in the car i always have the A/C on ...i wish that some one would find out why i sweat so much .it gets me down and as i have said its very embarrassing

Did you know that there is a medical condition called Hyperhidrosis? Did they ever consider that? It's treatable. It can also be caused by nerve pain too though. Just a couple of thoughts for you today.

sweaty but clean

i am a very clean person too and have to take several showers especially in summer. Now that I am 60lbs overweight I sweat more. I wear tank tops under my shirts and have to wear my hair up alot. I hate being sweaty and it feels gross.

Tonya,
I've never heard of that but maybe i will ask doc on Friday. It seems to be worse since i've gained weight and am on narc pain meds.

hyperhidrosis{may be spelt incorrectly}

simply means excess sweating its a medical term for excess w]sweating .the docs use it when they can't find anything wrong with you ..they call that idiopathic/{no cause}
thanks for the ideas

Pain med's!

Unfortunatly one of the side effects from many pain meds is increased sweating. Oh yippee! I don't have a real problem with sweating but I do stay hot ALL of the time. I hate summer!!!!!!! I don't even wear a jacket in the winter anymore, my sweaters are going to waste, and I can never get cool enough no matter what I wear in the summer. I too live with a fan blowing on me. Even in the winter. I can get cold but once I warm up, watch out, time to turn the heater off and everyone else has to freeze to death. The only time I seem to sweat is in the summer and it's always on my face. Yes, it can be embarrassing. Luckily everyone else is hot too so I can blend in somewhat. This started as soon as I began taking Oxycontin. What I had never heard before is that chronic pain can also cause us to be hotter than normal. Is that really true? If so I can at least have some more information in my arsonal. I would really like to learn more about that?

Know how you feel

Hi Straker - I know what you mean. I absolutely pour with sweat if I eat anything which is so embarrassing. I also have terrible night sweats to the extent that I have the windows wide open and a fan blowing on me. My poor husband has now been reducted to sleeping on the couch as the bedroom is now WAY too cold for him. I haven't mentioned the sweating to the doc but I might do now as I see some people say it is down to meds. Maybe your doc will change your meds as your sweating must be affecting your daily life (at least I can choose not to eat in public) - Good luck. Grin - Pembroke

I had a growth removed from behind base of my spine 8 years ago which they said was probably there for years. I recently have severe pain near hip in buttock, stabbing pain in tailbone and rectal stabbing and burning pain in left heel. Pain is constant and non mechanical and am waiting to have CT scan.

sweating

hi pembroke
i have had this sweating thing even when i was 3 stone lighter and not taking meds {i have been checked for everything}and thank god nothing came back abnormal.i am on the only meds that do take some of the pain away.anything else dose not work.i have just had some bad news today as i have been told by the pain doc that there is nothing that can be done {pain wise} anymore there is too much scar tissue in my back .i asked for another epidural and she said no .because when she did the last one she nearly broke the needle because there is far too much scar tissue in my spine .she is going to MRI scan me just to see what the hell is going on! as she is alarmed at the rate at which the DDD has got worse
