Edema in/on my lumbar spine

I decided to go to Pain management today
Well he said it is a good possibility I have edema in my back.(Like we get on our ankles) I have never heard of that.ok, .I have been a chronic pain sufferer for over 25 yrs.Stopped working 2 1/2 yrs ago.DDD,Arthritis,Spondelthesis, annular tear and a few other things..I can't seem to get an answer why my tailbone, butt and up the back some ,burn, feel raw, hurt sting, the leg pain can drive you nuts, can't stand, walk, sit for long at all.and when I really piss if off the lower back swells up.I can't lay on my back, and I sit kinked to the side. ?I have been to a few doctors, trying to get my back fixed. All of them said ,can't be fixed, meds rest of my life.I am only 49 so drugs are being stretched so they will still work when I get old .oh baby.I am already on 100mg duragesic ,60 mg morphine sulfate.nabautone, neurotin and cyotec for the tummy.

I wish you luck on your surgery.he didn't give me a durectic because he isn't sure.He THINKS it could be that. But I have heard that from anyone, never read it here or heard it from drs.It just baffled me, so I figured I would see if any one heard of it.Hope you fell better

I've not heard of edema that comes and goes like that, but I have had times where my muscles would spasm so bad they bulge or swell and then of course I can't stand straight or hold my head straight until it resolves.

I hope the doc figures it out for you soon.

I've had that in my thoracic

I've had that in my thoracic spine area post-op. Swelling is normal after trama. It took several weeks for it to go away. My PT would do alot of massage to try to dispurse the fluid.

Since you haven't had surgery I would wonder if there is something causing the trama. I would go back to the NS or OS for further eval.

Hi, Thanks for the

Hi,
Thanks for the responses. It is a real weird thing. When I lay on my side, you can feel the left and right side of my back and lumbar meet in the middle. It is kinda like you fold in half.Usually by morning or in a couple of hours it is gone, some times it will take days, but it's not muscle spasms. The skin actually feels irritated from rubbing/touching.The the ortho surg, nor the neurologist no what is causing it either.oh well.I hope you all feel better and get some relief

Hi Jule

The Neurosurgeon told me I have edema or a little lumbar sacral fluid built up and soft tissue swelling that was seen on my MRI. I didn't ask how that gets resolved but hoping the cortisone injection takes the swelling down for me. I hope your PM Dr. can help relieve your pain. I also stopped working 2 1/2 years ago also but haven't had back pain for so long. Take care and keep us posted how you're doing. Charry
