my leg constantly hurt

Please anyone help me with this. My leg pain in unbearable,i just want to cut my legs off. Its all nerve pain and i lay down to try and take the pressure off my spine,i walk because the doctors say its supposed to help with pain but nothing seem to work for me. i lay in bed and massage my legs,i know that i'm not paralyzed but some days it feels like i am. My brain seems to think that my legs just aren't attached to the rest of my body, maybe thats my way of dealing with the pain,i'm not sure. I'm doing physical therapy at the moment on my thoracic and lumbar spine, plus some acupuncture and massages and i'm seeing an osteopath. I feel like i'm wasting my money because none of them are making me feel any better. Does anyone have any suggestions for me???? ~X(

I'm sorry you are in such

I'm sorry you are in such pain. I really don't have any answers, though I wish that I did, but there has to be something that can bring you some relief. Sometimes the only thing that helps me, other than my pain medication, is a hot shower. I do understand constant CP, but I just don't have the answers that you need.
If you really feel that way.. that you are wasting your money with your Dr. and treatment (PT), perhaps you need a new Dr.?

Hi Tammy

Sorry to hear about your leg nerve pain. I take Cymbalta and it helps. I also use my infrared platinum heating pad on my leg when it's really bad pulsing and painful but try moist heat right now if you have a hot washcloth in a plastic bag and a towel or pillowcase overtop and put it on your leg for temporary relief. Careful not to burn yourself.

What nerve meds are you using now? I also take pain meds and maybe you need to see your Dr. soon to help get the pain under control. I also use a cane to take the pressure off the affected leg. Don't know how it would be with both legs? I hope you get help for this try icing also. Some days seem worse than others. Thinking of you and pray the pain eases up. Charry

Tammy

HI, As a veteran of long term pain, I have seen 7 different Drs, and finally went to a Spine Center, that is all they do, is Spine surgery and treatments. I suggest you find one, and make an appointment. It is the only place that could find my pain generaters and after wasting time with reg orthos and Neuros, I am finally getting my life back. Hopefully, you can too!

Spine Imaging

Hug Hi, Tammy. Hug Sorry to hear you're in so much pain. We all know how awful back pain can be. Have you had imaging tests - x-rays, MRI, discogram, etc. - done? Judging by posts I've read on this Board, the reliability of MRI is debatable, but my experience with it has led me to believe that it's the gold standard in spine diagnosis. Plain x-rays I had in 2005 led to a catchall diagnosis of chronic pain, which was contradicted by an MRI done last November, which showed mild facet arthritis and a dried-up disk (no big deal) as well as three herniated disks, the worst of which was L4-5, spondylolisthesis at the same level, and scoliosis. The disk herniations were the main cause of my pain, which has been alleviated with PT and continued exercises. Determining the cause of your pain is important, and imaging tests can point your doctor in that direction. Keep us posted, and best wishes. Hugs, Essmoe

hi everyone

Right now i'm taking 2700mg of gabapentin for the nerve pain. I also have things that my naturopath has given me to help support that.
Physical therapy is going very slow, she has only given me four exercises so far.She said that she wants to make sure that the exercises don't make my pain worse.Only when she touches my spine it creates really bad pain. I was told by the specialist that my pain was created by the discs and arthritis. To make things more complicated i have a hyper sensitivity to pain caused by damage to my spinal cord in my cervical spine. So when i feel pain it could be something very mild i feel it as being severe. During the accident my nerve signals got crossed and now when i feel any kind of pain that i can't handle instead of crying or screaming i break out into hysterical laughter. So people think that something is very funny when in actuality i'm laughing because i'm in allot of pain.Everyone that i'm dealing with in my therapies right now understands that but some of the patients that are around are sometimes very rude and don't understand whats going on.They make comments which really makes me angry.

People can be so rude.

People can be so rude. Anytime (some people) don't understand something or it does not match the description or their version of what is "acceptable" they assume to know the rest of that situation, when in reality, they have no idea that their assumptions are totally opposite of the reality. Of course, I use to be just as guilty as the next person before I realized how wrong I was about almost everything.

I'm sure you already know this, but those people who are assuming to know why you are reacting the way that you are to pain might look back someday and remember their rude remarks, and even wish that they could take it back. A lot of times wisdom comes with age and other times it doesn't come at all. You would be wise to forgive them for their ignorance, and find the peace that you deserve, but I know it can be difficult dealing with others perceptions of who we are. I hope you are feeling better.

Leg Pain

I spent a lot of time/money last year trying to get treated for what I was sure was IT band syndrome brought on my using the treadmill at too much of an incline.

My GP & chiro both fell for it.

It's taken this long to finally find out that the leg pain is caused by multiple low back injuries. I start PT on Thurs, hopefully that will help.

It's amazing how much leg pain our spines can create.

Wish I had some advice, but other than seeing a spine specialist (I'm assuming that is the specialist referenced by the OP), I don't know what else to recommend.

trying to get a referral

My physical therapist is going to write up a letter to my doctor asking her to refer me to a pain clinic. She is worried about the degree of pain that i'm in and nothing that they can do is helping it. My nerve pain meds. aren't touching the pain anymore and i just found out that my neurologist is chronically ill and is on a long leave of absence. I can't see her and my own PM won't touch the meds. that my neurologist is treating me with. So i'm hoping that my PM will agree to send me to the clinic and they can help modify my pain level so that i can go through the therapies without the pain that i'm having.
