back pain right side just below the waist

I've just joined this forum and was wondering is there anyone else out there who experiences what I seem to have.
I'm 53 and have been diagnosed with sciatica and osteoporosis. Vertebrea 4 and 5 have fused. For the past 6 months or so have had a lot of pain in my side, just above waist. Have checked out all internal organs and they say they're fine, so it must be connected to spinal nerve. Would be grateful to chat to anyone with similar problem

thoracic spine problems

Sounds like you might need a mri of the t-spine to me. I have a lot of pain that radiates to the waist area and was checked for everything like you were and until I had the mri of the t-spine they could not find any problems. Now I am facing a serious back surgery because they found I have spinal cord compression from a disc herniation on t8-9 that causes major pain. Good luck Robin Renee

Hi Baddeck

Are you seeing a pain management Dr? I have pain below my waist and it took my 2nd pain management Dr to diagnois but he saw it in the MRI. I also agree if you have problems in one part of the spine it's tugging somewhere on the rest of your spine. I agree to get a thoraic also. We're not Drs though. Hope they find out what's going on. Take care. Charry

Back pain..

You are describing what I went through before surgery. I have degenerative disc disease affecting T3-4, T5-6, T8-9 and L5-S1 discs. The most pronounced of all was T8-9 which was cmpressing the spinal cord slightly, it also was pressing on the nerve root that exits the spinal cord.
I had many sleepless nights over my back and sometimes still am because surgery was only two weeks ago. But I can say the "kind" of pain I experience now is surgical pain and very different from before.
My pain used to sometimes stab right through my chest, it was constantly throbbing and more on the right side up to my neck. When the weather was bad it was definately worse!
I tried injections in the discs, PT, chiropractic care, disc decompression (DRX-9000, which btw only buys you time, don't waste the money!) and exercise, all to no avail. For me surgery was the best option.
If you haven't had an MRI of your 3 spinal areas, cervical, thoracic, and lumbar, I suggest you do so ASAP if the pain is that bothersome. Early intervention is always best before further damage occurs.
I am only 32 and very limited because I waited too long and didn't speak up to my doctors. By the time I did switch doctors and speak up there was more damage than I could imagine!
I wish you the best of luck with your back and really understand what the pain is like to live with. I hope you find some answers soon!

Your Post

Hi, I read that you had surgery on your thoracic spine. My doctor also wants me to have the same kind of surgery, but I have read really horror stories on how the surgery is done.

Did they go in from the back or front to do your surgery?
How are you doing since you had it?
Hope you are feeling better now.
Thanks

I also have severe pain on right side

I also have severe pain in mid back area all pain is on right side, also severe pain in sacral area, and right hip and leg, If I sit for more than 20 min pain become inbearable, and get tingling and pins and needle feeling. Had surgery 1999, anterior release fusion, bone graft, rods t11-S1, have osteoarthisis, and had bone scan with increased dye in thorasic area non specific, also mri noted operative changes what ever than means, ortho said surgery won't improve qual of life, did water pt, chiropractor, inject cervical, and sacro, pain med, don't knw what else to do. I think nerve damage but havn't been tested, gonna ask primary dr, to send me. I feel your pain good luck

Thoracic pain

I have back problems, degenerative disc, congenital cervical problem. Lower back problems, but my worst problems are in the thoracic area. I have a calcified disc and a synovial cyst. My docs at the charity hospital I go to says they dont cause pain. I know better. When I do the physical therapy exercises it causes my right side to hurt worse. Burning pain, and I think it's from the cyst being iritated. I quit trying to get them to listen. Got terrible treatment. I think one reason is because I complained about one dr, they switched me to another and he doesn't like me because I complained about his co-worker. I recently got disability, as soon as I can get Medicaid I will look for a doctor that will treat me, not mistreat me.

Hi, I also have pain in my

Hi, I also have pain in my side that goes from just in the front to the back almost to the middle of my back just about where my waist is. It is on the left side. I will be having surgery either end of May or 1st. of June on my Thoracic area. I will be seeing my doctor on 4-15 and plan to ask him if this side pain is coming from my thoracic disk or my lower back where I had surgery last July on L5 S1. I do still have a lot of trouble with my lower back.

Will post on what he tells me after I return home.
