Nerve Pain

I've started having nerve pain in my right arm about a week or so ago. It feels like most of the pain shoots from my elbow down to my wrist and into my hand where my hand is left tingling. My surgeon at first thought it was my rotor cuff but my PT told me it seems more like nerve pain to her
since I have good range of motion in the shoulder.
I'm now worried it's my neck again since you can see that the bone is still not fused after a year. I'm not ready for another surgery as I'm still getting over my PLIF from June 24th.
Has anyone else experienced this kind of pain before?

Christina :)

  • Hopefully it's only overuse or inflammation. Keep us posted. Take care. Charry

  • Christina, just a thought, are you doing any excercises in Pt with your arms. I know I have been and I got some pain through arms. Not quite what you are saying but might have aggravated something.

  • For a long time I had muscle tension in my neck and shoulders that was just enough to trap the nerve and mimic a C-spine problem. I had a great PM doc at the time who proved it to me.

Our C-spines take on additional load after a lumbar fusion. Is it possible you are holding stress in your shoulders and neck lately?

  • is there any fusion at all in your neck??? or have they not seen any fusion after a year????
that could be the problem of course i am no specialist.
my lumbar did not fuse from last year and i started in with pain. plus numbness and tingling in my legs.
so instead of waiting any longer i decided to do the revision which i had on the 17th.
i totally understand you not wanting to go through another surgery after just having the lumbar and still recovering.

but of course as you know only your dr can answer all those questions on what is best for you to do.
could be just a nerve pinch, but of course ya won't know.
people cannot see inside your body and predict what "they think" it might be. only a test will show that.

so sorry your going through all of this right now..
    i know what its like..
    hang in there. ;)
what does your dr say about all this and not fusing in your neck??? did he say that could be causing the pain??

GOOD LUCK keep us updated on your progess sweetie.

  • charry- thanks for replying, I was hoping maybe overuse too but i'ts not gona away in the slightest just gets worse.

seekinghelp- Nope, its not from the exercises. It started before I stated PT and theyve been scared to do any exercises on me that might hurt my neck just in case.

haglandc- Not sure, maybe...sounds like something to hope for. I would much prefer that over another neck surgery.

TerriJV-There has been no fusion whatsoever after my cervical surery. You can see the white donor bone in betwwen my own bones but right above and right below the donor bone there are clearly visable black lines where the fusion should be. The doctor hasn't said anything except from pointing out the black lines. He says just give it time.
He mentioned to me if my arm pain doesnt stop he'll schedule another cervical MRI for me. I think I'll give him a call on Monday and let him know Im in pain.

    Christina :)
