HI :H :H :H :H
First thank you to Tonya for letting you guys know what was going on. I had no idea my 12 yr old even did that on myspace. I was very proud of her the way she even wrote (worded the message).
This is going to be long so I can get everything in. So if your not up to reading long posts, please just skip by it and don't complain :D :D =))

I got home Friday afternoon.
Surgery went well. 2hrs. They could find no veins so I had a cath in my right wrist 5 inches LONG. And a neck cath. All this done with no sedation yet as they could not get me any in time. Then boom out like a light.
Instead of ICU they sent me to recovery for 6hrs. I was wondering why my pain was uncontrolled during that period. A certain nurse hooked up the PCA and left the button laying on top of my head !!! :jawdrop: :jawdrop: She says "oh it automatically goes in your system" Ok hmmmm back to sleep I go. Still in pain. Nurse 2 says are you using your PCA? umm no do I have one. Yes here is the button push this. OMG My anthestoligist who was awesome even came and sat with me for a hour to keep a eye on me with my pain. How often does that happen. My poor family hubby could not even see me till I went to my room. They were so tired and worn out. Its so hard waiting and boring/uncomfortable. Ya all know that have done it.

Off to my room. No sleep for the 4 nights. Finally 2nd morning they upped the dilaudid to 4mg a hour in the PCA (I tthink thats how it works. Its was the max they could put in the pump) finally some relief pushing the button every 6 minutes. Whew trying to watch the clock on that much medication 8} 8} 8} @)
I developed a cough. Anyone with belly surgery knows that is the worst feeling of pain. At one point the breathing was so bad. Finally got a awesome nurse that hooked up a humidfire in my room . YEAH. ty. I had 3 good nurses the whole time I was there. That really cared what I had to say and what I needed. Not what they were told to do etc. Best kind the ones that tend to your needs.
1 bowel movement all week. OUCH they fed me so much suppositories, stool softeners and senna I should of had a cow. I come home and take 2 ducolax (which I asked for) and boom Terri was right again I went. DUHHH.
Pain control for home. Another nightmare on Elmstreet. I said 10mg oxycodone always works. Well we tried and it did not. So I asked how about trying 15 mg? "Well we don't have that dose" HUH U DUMB DUMB " I said 2 - 7.5mg tabs" That was a no go.
so they call in MS contin 15mg and 2mg Dilaudid pills. Now mind you the 2 nurses asked for Dilaudid pills for 2 days for me. UGGHHH again LISTEN DRS!! Not saying all drs are bad at all. But when you have the main dr or resident and 6 others (different each day mind you) things do not get done right.
So she said MS contin is going to make you dizzy in a little while ring your light for the bathroom. So I did. Did it work??? NO NO NO NO just like I thought. Then she gave me the dilaudid pill. I fell asleep for 3 hrs =D> Rolled over and went WOW this WORKED :O) Now if this was just listened to in the first place I would of been home Thurs morning!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Now problem is they only gave me a max daily dose of 6 pills. UGHH so I have to call Monday morning for more and have hubby pick up the script if they will even do that. Not sure. They will probably say I don't need them.

I have a 9 inch incision sideways on my left side. 38 staples. Not sure of the measurement of the other 2 incisons in the front of my legs. But 11 staples in the each of them. I am in alot of pain. I won't lie I'm not strong through this one. I would have 10 back surgeries over this one. I know after the staples are out and by the end of December I will feel wonderful. But the mental and physcial aspect of it is just unbelievable. The ones that have been through several surgeries, your body and mind gets used to them. But there is always that 1 surgery that takes the cake. This was the ONE. I'm still having a hard time breathing/taking breaths in etc. and have a horrible cough. Thinking bronchitis.
AWESOME SIDE OF THIS WHOLE THING no more leg pain at all. No numbness/tingling/severe pain NOTHING <:P <:P <:P My upper body down to my hips of course are still very painful but in some time that will go away. No tummy tuck darn it ~X( :D <br />
Thank you for all the emails, PM's etc etc etc. I hope EVERYONE had a AWESOME Thanksgiving. Hit some great sales. Actually I like Black Friday better then Thanksgiving itself =)) But this is the first year I missed both even the online shopping part. Wasn't in the mood. Thats why I did not post till just now. I just do not feel good enough to be on here. Give that a few days etc, and I imagine I will be up to answering posts etc. So I am not ignoring you.
Anyone that has surgery this week. I hope your home and doing well.
STEPANIE I know you were having a hard time hunny. Just like my first back surgery with pain control. I pray you are feeling just even a tiny bit better. I love ya pumpkin.

Ok this is long enough. I did read this over twice. I may have repeated myself, mispelled due to meds/ needing new glasses SERIOUSLY NEED new ones etc. But dilaudid is the bomb when you use lortab to WHEW :$ I) @) So I very sorry for that.
I love you all very very much. Enjoy the rest of your Holiday weekend.
Terri :X O:) :*

  • OMG I'm glad you posted. We were all worried but knew you would come out allright. Still remember you just had major surgery and you need your rest. Splint with a pillow getting up or coughing. And deep breath and cough excercise if you're told to do those. Anyways wish the Dr. would've ordered Dilaudid first for you and nurse gave button to you . I hope the healing goes well for you. It's amazing what pain you've had to go through. I wish you healing and success and sorry you missed black friday deals..more for us. lol j/k Splint! Take care. From Charry

  • Glad that you are home and that the surgery was successful despite the recovery pain. Hang in there and remember one day at a time or one moment at a time if need be.

  • She's here!!!!!
    YEA!!!!!!!!!!
I am so sorry that you had to go through so much pain. Believe me your spirit lives on even if you aren't here for a few more days. I click on posts and see your smiling face everywhere. You will still be in my thoughts and prayers.
My Black Friday shopping included me, my recliner, my laptop and my brand spankin' new heating pad. :)
Sorry you missed Thanksgiving at home. Next year will have to be super special for you. Here is one giant hug. Glad you're back! >:D< >:D< >:D<
  • It's about time you got back on! I'm certainly tired of picking up the ball and trying to be sweet to everyone instead of the mean, nasty things going on in my head! =)) =)) Just kidding people!

Terri...you know the drill--take your meds ON TIME, keep up with the bowel stuff, etc., etc., etc. You take care of yourself, ya hear? We don't want you gone like this again! Love ya, darlin girl!! >:D< >:D<

  • I I so glad to hear that you are home and in the bosom of your loving family again. You are so lucky to have them. >:D<

Gosh what an ordeal!!!!! I am so sorry you have had all that pain and still do, dont forget (as if you would) to get some more pain killers first thing Monday!!! :''(

YUK, that catheter into the neck is awful- I had one for 4 days post op and it had about 4 leads off it so was really heavy every time I moved my head.

Did they tell you if you have to cough, then hold a pillow close to your tummy and it obsorbs the shock a bit. It does help.
Now the only thing left to do is to get better and visualise all the blood flowing completely and easily around your body.

    Big gentle hugs Sara O:)
  • so glad you are home! Sorry about all the pain and medication problems though..hopefully time will make it all better! I am sure your family is SO happy to have you back!
Has the cough gotten any better? I remember having abdominal surgery..coughing sucked. Put a pillow against your belly when you cough (you probably knew that though :))) ) I hope you can rest and sleep and continue to improve!

  • TERRI-BEARY, YIPPEE YOUR HOME!!! I have been so worried about you. I am so glad Allie and Tonya kept us updated too. I am thrilled for you that your leg pain is gone. That is so awesome. Now you can walk and walk to help your lungs, tummie, and back.

I am sorry you didn't have the greatest care at the hospital. There are always too many hands in the pot. If only we could have our one surgeon decide about meds etc and only deal/speak with him, it would be so much easier. Instead you get multiple PA's, nurses, residents, relief docs, etc. Everyone has a different idea.

Now you better be doing your TCDB-turn, cough, and deep-breath. Did you get a voldyne or triflow lung exerciser (that thing you inhale on). They better have given you one for sure or else they really suck. If so make sure you use it every hour at least ten breaths. If not just do long slow deep breaths every hour. Gotta ward off the pneumonia, don't need any complications. Hold a pillow on your tummy and cough too.

Now you know the rules, keep walking, rest up, exercise your feet, take your meds, drink lots of fluids, and careful with the TUI =)) Just kidding ;) Love you sweetie, hope you feel better soon, >:D< :* Darla
  • Terri, I am happy to hear that your surgery resolved your leg pain!! Please take it easy on yourself. >:D<
  • to make sure that we knew what was going on! I am happy that you are home now too!!!! I had the same problems with the meds and such this go around. If only they would listen the first time!!!!!!!! I have not been posting much cause sitting *and* laying on my back are not feeling great right now, so more in time.

    One Love,

    Stephanie
