hi all, ive just been put on a waiting list for tlif surgery and im interested to find out other peoples experiences. ive had an mri scan of my spine, to look at a crushed disk that came from fracturing my spine over a year ago. my pain was coming from lower down than the break though, and is pain ive put up with for 15 years. the mri scan showed up a severely degenerate disk l1 and its just by chance it was found. ive had physio but as for painkillers im allergic to anything that works well. ive been offered surgery but as its my choice im wondering if its better to go ahead and have it or continue living as i am. i am able to work part time at the mo, but ive constantly got back pain, and have had for years now. has anyone got any good advice for me? i cant stand up for any length of time without leaning on something, but can walk for about 5 miles quite comfortably (well my back hurts less walking than standing still)

  • :) hi and welcome to the forum! :H we are here to offer you support and answer what questions we can. check out the "Back and Neck" surgery forum for some more input on your surgery. have a look around and make yourself at home. good luck as you search for pain relief. =D> Jenny :)
  • I totally understand your reluctance to have surgery as it holds no guarantees that it will help and it actually makes some people worse. Have you tried injections, rhizotomys and some of the less invasive procedures that are out there? My personal opinion is that I would have to be immobile before I would consider fusion. Good luck and please keep us posted.
