Sciatica vs. tight hip flexors

ajamiesonaajamieson Posts: 65
How do you know if the pain down your leg is really sciatica or just tight hip flexors? Just wondering.

  • When I go for nerve blocks for sciatica I get them in my hip also and really think it's helping with my sciatica. She gives the injections along the route of the sciatica nerve ending at the hip. I also get the facet joint injections and SI and epidural.

I was surprised the first time the PM Dr. grabbed my hip and how I screamed out I had no idea the hip was so affected with the sciatica to my foot. I've had more relief from sciatica from this PM Dr. but first time I ever received hip and butt nerve blocks. Other than that I never got any attention to my hip. Other then this 3rd opinion PM Dr. no other Ortho or Neuro or PM Dr. could help me with this. Good luck. TC. Charry

  • Thank you for your response. When you have a nerve block can you walk? What kind of side effects does it have?

  • But I take it easy for 3 days and don't do the round the block walks as I get an epidural at the same time. As far as I know it just numbs the muscle around the sciatic nerve and feels not so tight. I'm going again for my 5th injections Sept. 2. Less tingling in my foot and less pain also. Do you have foot pain also? You would know if you have sciatica problems when the PM Dr. grabs your hip at the sciatic nerve. I can't even reproduce grabbing it the way she does. My goodness she has a good sense where my pain is. C

  • Yes, my feet are either tingly or extremely painful, especially around the big toe.
