cortisone again

}:) I just had a cortisone shot, in a series of many over the years. I have never had success with them. I have had 3 surgeries and 2 fusions. I am fused L1-L5 and now L5 is slipping forward and causing pain. The doc is hoping the cortisone works so I don't have to have another surgery. But he also says it is structural. Which to means that it is the vertebrae and not some inflammation somewhere. Has anyone ever numerous cortisone shots that didn't work and then miraculously one does??

Spinal stenosis, spondolysis, spondolythesis, L4/L5 laminectomy, L4/L5 360 fusion with instrumentation, L1 to L5 fusion with instrumentation and bone graft from hip, PT, accupuncture, prolotherapy, many cortisone injections, 4 rhizotomies.
L4/L5 laminectomy, L4/L5 360 fusion with instrumentation, L1 to L5 fusion, L5/S1 fusion w/ disc replacement, left and right SI joints fused.

  • I have had numerous injections in my cervical spine by 4 different surgeons. None of them worked.
I also had several injections in my lower back that didn't work. I started with a new Dr about a year ago and he sent me to one of his colleagues who does nothing but injections. After the first series of 4 injections my pain went from 7/8 to 4/5 The Dr sent me back for another round and my pain went to 2/3 and the relief lasted for 4 months. I truly believe it is the skill of the surgeon. I am due for another round and hope it works as well as the last because the alternative is fusion l4-s1.

  • I have been going to a pain management specialist who does nothing but injections. I did not get relief from the one I just had but after hearing about yours I may have a little more faith and try it again. My alternative is L5/S1 fusion. I am already fused L1-5 and there is so much scar tissue that the injections are terribly hard to do. The doc says its like going thru rubber cement!!
