electric shock sensations

i don;t know if it has to do with my back etc, but once in a while i get electric shock feelings in my lower left leg. My foot tingles but that is nothing new, but these electric shock feeling i have just been getting for the last month or two. Anyone else have these sensations or suggestions what they are from......thanks for any input,...

  • It is probablythe nerve that is being pressed in the lower back. Stenosis or disc pressing against it will cause that shocking pain down the leg. Unless you have your toes stuck in an electrical socket its probably a nerve being agrivated. From what i know if its the back of the leg then its l5s1 if its the inside of the leg to the feet its l4l5. Outside the leg to feet is l3l4 or something like that. Check the nerve maping that on this site sowhere or just give description to dr he will know. Good luck

  • HI,
Yes..I have that also!! Have had 3 lumbar surgeries on L3,L4,L5 and if I'm sitting for too long, I get those electric like jolts down my leg and then the toes on my left foot spread out-really weird.Doesn't happen on the right side, only the left, which I was given a 20% permanent disability on that side back in 98 after the surgeries were done. Also, if I walk too much, my left thigh goes numb on the outside, then the burning pain starts in my lower back...feels like a damn blow torch!
The only thing that works for me is to lay down and try to find a position where there is no pressure on my lower back...usually on my side, and after awhile, the sensations stop and my toes go back to normal.. Repositioning is that only things that works for me, but it truly is a weird things when it happens.
    Take care and feel better!
  • Sharon,

I get them in my shoulders, arms, center punch in my thoracic (that one is my ice pick) and butt, groin (new) and legs. I know for mine, all can trace back to pissed off nerves.

For my legs most common when sitting, butt and groin when standing, bending and a little bit with walking, but not so much there.

I hope you are able to find out what is causing yours. I call them "funny bone" zaps in other parts of the body!! Hate them!!
