Hi forum. I am a 29 year old male from south alabama. Started dealing with my sciatica pain last October. Kinda weird it started as severe back pain, then seemed to jump to my right hip. To make a long story short, I have been on anti-inflammatories, non narcotic pain relievers, neurontin, lyrica, mobic, zanaflex, soma, as well as constant high dose of IB Profen this entire time. When this first started I was walking approximately 2-3 miles a day for the excercise. After the onset of the stabbing pains in my hip/thigh area, and the shooting pain down my leg, as well as numbness and tingling, my doctor reccommended that I stop my excercise regimen until this goes away. I have done the excercises my doctor has recommended, as well as purchase an inversion table to see if that would alleviate the symptoms. I have made the choice to seek a pain management professional against my better judgement, in hope that I may be able to find some form of relief to the everyday pain.
One of my inquiries is really comments from others as to what I should ask the doctor and what medications have worked for you? I research all of the medicines I take and like to get opinions from others as to what works for them, so that I may have some discussion with my doctor as to what others have told me works for them, and what options I would like to seek.

Thank you for your time and hope that I did not run on.

  • welcome to spine health, we are glad that you are here, but sorry that pain brought you.

have you had any tests done (xrays, mri,)in order to help get a diagnosis? have you been to a fellowship trained orthopedic or neurosurgeon? there are many good articles in the faq section of sh. one is https://www.spine-health.com/treatment/spine-specialists/preparing-meet-a-spine-surgeon-or-spine-specialist and there is one with 38 questions to ask your surgeon.

everyone has different experiences with medication, and what works for one, may not work for another. the best thing if your meds are not working, is to talk to your doctor about it, and let them know how you are feeling. they generally don't like you to specifically ask for a certain medication, but they are usually willing to try different ones, if what you are on isn't helping.

look forward to hearing more from you.
