Disc replacement or fusion?

Hi, I'm new here and have some questions. I have a herniated disc at c5/6 that has been causing a tremendous amount of pain and more recently numbness and weakness in my arm. I saw the surgeon for the first time yesterday and he said that surgery is probably in my future. We're going to get an MRI of my shoulder just to make sure it's the herniation that's causing all my pain. So, he says if I have the surgery I have the option of a disc replacement or fusion. From what it looks and sounds like, it will only be a 1 level whatever we decided to do. I've done a good deal of research on both, but would love to hear any real life experience with the two.
