From Gabapentin to Lyrica

Hi Everyone,

I'm wondering how long Lyrica takes to have an effect. I started Wednesday night, 100mg 2x a day. I stopped the gabapentin Wednesday afternoon. Problem is that my pain has increased dramatically since then and wondering if I should ask the doctor for an increase in dosage, or I just need to wait?

  • I thought it took a little while to kick in (a couple weeks, maybe). That being said, I was at the highest dose of Gabapentin and had to gradually wean off of that while simultaneously building up Lyrica slowly. It was a long process, maybe 3-4 weeks total to get completely off Gabapentin and work up to the full dose of Lyrica.

For me, Lyrica works better and at a lower dose. I hope you find some relief.

  • Lyrica can take up to a week or so before you see the benefits of the medication. Like gabapentin, the dosage needs to be increased slowly, and only with the approval of your doctor.

  • Thanks everyone. I'll stick to the 100mg x 2 a day until Thursday to see if I notice a difference from my current pain. Seems to not be working so far.
